Lacework

I tried (and retried many many times!) lace knitting. The pattern i was following had lovely chains of bay leaves but they got lost because of the multi-coloured handspun mohair i was using. It was good lacework practice but the end result is airy and textured but patternless.

Thursday afternoon

With a few everyday projects on the go -- draining yogurt for yogurt cream (an easy alternative to marscapone), a new bread recipe rising, leftover blown eggs from Easter drying, while felted sweaters are shrinking down further in the washing machine for a new batch of floor baskets. The lanolin smell of wet wool masked by baking bread.

So the red rug turned out to be "beaten too hard" (just getting used to hula hoop tension) and it popped off the loom like a fibre basket unstead.  but the kids...and the cats it seems...are happy that it works well as a cat bed.

Red Sweater

Finished!

(Remember way back when when it was only a few rows.)

Egg suppers

Current favourite: Souffle!

From a Dutch (as-big-as-a) baby pancake recipe, courtesy of Orangette, which goes a little something like this:
1/4 milk
2 T. butter
4 eggs
1/2 cup flour

Mix together. Pour into a cast iron and bake at 425 for 20 minutes max. Remove from oven. Sprinkle with fresh parm and s&p. Or, if it's for breakfast, drizzle with lemon juice and icing sugar.

They weren't kidding

When i went hunting for some recipes with which to use the preserved lemons I had made, i came across more than a handful that named them the "secret ingredient". After this tagine, there is no longer any doubt in my mind. Not capers, nor caraffe olives or saffron...it was these humble lemons that put the salmon right over the top:
