So the red rug turned out to be "beaten too hard" (just getting used to hula hoop tension) and it popped off the loom like a fibre basket unstead.  but the kids...and the cats it seems...are happy that it works well as a cat bed.

the little people

these little people have been naked for over a year now. i'm pretty excited that they're now dressed and ready to dance around the dollhouse. ok, maybe faces would help too.

It is those times that we need creative space the most that there is no room. I understand that in a physical sense these days. Our house has been dealing with electrical upgrades, insulation, and new ceiling drywall. It has felt like ages since I've found the time and the space to do something besides home repairs. Today though, I finished two rugs to bring to next week's KWWS (Kitchener Waterloo Weavers' & Spinners') sale.

some wool items i've been working on. the matryoshka dolls were appliqued on a tea cozy and the animal floor cushions are filled with the bits and pieces of a thousand wool pieces i've sewn over the years.

Sunday morning

while the boys went birding, i spent the weekend morning trying out a blanket stitch on an eyeglass cover, first with my own handpsun which was incredibly lumpy, then with embroidery floss, then i gave up and machine stitched it.

these little owls line the inside and hold the wool stuffing in:

the finished case:

i also made a book, after a very long interval, for a dear friend; watched the sprouts grow; and ate too many licorice all-sorts. a decadent morning.

the lentil sprouts made it to last night's salad with carmelized leek and potato soup and delicious little rolls from 101 cookbooks, found here, and i say delicious because they were grainy and healthy too! (made up for the all-sorts accident.)

This past Saturday eight of us got together to serge and piece together wool covers and pants for kids. See more photos here.

New designs

Just in time for tomorrow's sale: cowl scarf, mixed merino top, and slippers. It's not even that late, but my head is foggy, the tripod's crooked, and the colours are all off. Time for a sewing break.

Weaver's and Spinner's Sale

After 5 years in the guild, this is the first time I've actually had anything in one of their bi-annual sales. This time, I put in four rugs, the largest of which, in the photo below, sold yesterday.

Rugmaking

The first of the wool weft and warp rugs to come off of the loom:

fall

it can change a season overnight.

i have so little time but i've been itching to try out some new wool pieces: merino leggings, circular scarves (modeled below), a new dress fusing recycled wool and vintage fabric, a sideways cardigan...suddenly, it feels like the sales are just around the corner, but who am i kidding: nothing makes sense at midnight.
so i will eat lemon yogurt and go to bed.

time

the late afternoon sun filtering through the windows of the front sun room yesterday made me wish that i had a chance every day at that time, not just now, when Eily is away. i'm so grateful to be finally warping the loom for a rug. the wool is a mix of blue and green hues, whatever i could find. there's not quite enough string for making the last heddles. but its a start nonetheless.

what does 100 pounds of wool look like?

heaven knows why i waited until july to do this, but i finally followed up on a contact i had that sells recycled wool by the pound. we drove down to the warehouse the other day and i came back with 50 lbs. of regular wool and 50 lbs. of merino, cashmere, and thinner wools, plus a pile of dress shirts to boot.

today, i worked on a merino poncho that fits mama and babe for my sister to try out.

Today, I'm knee-deep once again in sweater scraps. Here are the vegetables I've been stuffing and have yet to hand sew closed.
