I found some pj pants at the swap - blue and covered in construction trucks - and didn't discover they were 100% polyester until Eily had fallen head over heels in love with them. the only way to get them off was to promise a new, better pair. so off we went to the fabric store on the afternoon of the weather "bomb" that was to hit southern ontario, one week before halloween when university guys were trying to figure out how much pink chenille they would need for their pillow custome. needless to say: terrible timing. but Eily found some fabric and when I showed him the finished product after he came home from school yesterday, he practically jumped out of his jeans to get in them. I believe his perfect day would be an all day pajama day.
Today was my first attempt at revamping one of the many roller blinds in this house with new fabric and existing hardware. The first thing I learned was: get new hardware! But hey, it's still a better way to display this lovely piece of batik that was sitting forgotten in the fabric pile and the previous blind was completely in tatters. I also learned there's a local source for roller blind kits. I'm not quite ready to call this post "roller blinds are #1" but more are definitely in the works.
my sewing room wall can now express its different moods. or rather, i can for it. i've found a way to change backdrops for photo shoots (of clothing, not me nor eily nor b) and this morning my father-in-law kindly mounted the curtain rod which will allow me to do so.
some of them are just plain wall candy...why hide them in the sewing closet?

My last assignment for school, fittingly, involves a woven mat. I used fabric scraps that have significance, such as Oma's scarf, leftovers from clothes made by Mom when I was young, Senegalese batik from Esther, etc to tell the story of my ecological identity. I've seperated the fabric strips rather than blending them while weaving so that they can be recognized each time I step on the mat, which now sits at the threshold of our front door. A perfect fit.

Eily's car seat apron, stuffed with some of his favourites, for the big car ride.

Eily's quite fond of the banner I finished, although he prefers to use it as a train. We'll hopefully hang it up for the party this weekend and use it for decorating future birthday parties.

Yesterday's project was to increase the softness of the landing beside Eily's bed...he's been known to end up there fairly frequently. I found the fabric at Salvation Army and stuffed the pillows with bits and pieces of sweaters leftover from other projects. The stuffing's inconsistent of course but the resulting pillows are actually quite soft.
I didn't get a chance to post last night because we picked raspberries until dusk at a farm near Rockwood. The berries were divine and the farm, the gardens, the house, so peaceful.
