Sale Prep.  I've completely fallen for this cast iron clothing rack which i scored from a store's liquidation sale.

Balaclava

I'm working on a balaclava pattern with recycled merino. On one of the hottest days of the year, Gabe didn't seem to mind being my model.

Wool Soakers

After some alterations, i'm pleased with the new design and fit of the Sew Oiseau soakers. Now i can offer the originals with elastic waistbands and these, with extra wide ribbing or folded knit interlock, all in pure wool:

Gabe's quickly outgrowing his diaper covers. I wanted to try ones without elastic at the waistband, just ribbed wool knit instead.

cashmere leggings

these are the one-and-only finished product of my attempt at maternity knitting.
i was going to add a ribbon as per the pattern but i opted for a more practical elastic. not as pretty but distinctively more vintage looking. i feel like this came out of a box of my own baby clothes.

the little people

these little people have been naked for over a year now. i'm pretty excited that they're now dressed and ready to dance around the dollhouse. ok, maybe faces would help too.

the weekend

can winter really be over? maybe i'm not yet convinced. this week, i finished a pair of merino leggings, cut from an old sweater and waiting for its cuffs for about two months.


in truth, it was a classic spring weekend, with a lot of sun and a dose of rain, and finally some regular weekend routines again. raspberry scones in the morning, a new batch of bread baking with flax seeds and seven grain cereal, and a pizza dinner. brett made me a fig-pear-goat cheese one which i topped with local watercress

and, these are a pair of rustic bunny ears which Eily made yesterday....I couldn't resist.

cardinal hoodie

it's pure satisfaction to finish this project after hoping to make it a christmas gift then vowing to finish it by the end of march, then sewing the seams twice (because the first time just didn't cut it) and one spot even three times.

this is Eily before 9am in the morning. and behind him is the reason i've been preoccupied with other things (ie. drywalling, mudding, cleaning, painting).

my winter quest

this winter i've dedicated some time (and let's face it, money) to getting and keeping myself warm. recently, i realized that my circulatory system is a bit of a slacker. clearly, not everyone has to wear longjohns from november to march. and i'm still cold.
to up the ante, i've been trying to wear a wool layer against the skin. or sometimes silk, which has been a little harder to acquire second-hand. i'm also a little curious about fleece as a top layer. but when i couldn't find thick fleece pants, i bought some polartec 300 material, the warmest fleece i could find, from an outdoor fabric store in seattle. yesterday, i made them into pants and passed out at 9pm probably from overheating.

A Slow Start

January is a satisfying expanse of time that too quickly fills up.

I spent the holidays picking up a few old projects and starting some new ones.

And, at the quilt shop, E requested a needle felted elephant like he saw in a book. It's a tiny little thing named (oddly enough, considering his natural habitat), Snowy:

i thought my sewing machine and i were on a hiatus, but...

a mini cowl scarf for Eily...(maybe this will put an end to sniffles every two weeks).

...and a finished order for a wool-loving three-year-old.

New designs

Just in time for tomorrow's sale: cowl scarf, mixed merino top, and slippers. It's not even that late, but my head is foggy, the tripod's crooked, and the colours are all off. Time for a sewing break.
