A few years back i gave Brett the gift of the never-ending coffee mug. If it broke, i'd make another. And it did this past summer. The first one was hand built, then glazed. For the second, Eily and i went to Luci's Mudhouse where he painted a pre-made one. - Posted using BlogPress from my iPod

It was a farm party....for anyone who knows Eily, of course! Here's some shots taken specifically for the invites.
Eily's bucket list from the summer has seven things crossed off. One of the remaining un-crossed off items was "make a cake" which we saved for his birthday party. We had drawn a picture of what he had in mind. Turned out to be really helpful in making the finished product.
13 kids, 14 adults, 2 cakes, loads of other food, a bird feeder craft, goodie bags, and only a little bit of rain. whew!

Before going to sleep last night, Eily told me he wanted cake. Since he had just endured two days of day care after our vacation, I told him we would definitely make cake together the next day. So this morning, I asked him what kind of cake he wanted, thinking I could easily throw together some banana loaf, maybe add in some chocolate chips. He promptly responded with his request: "candle cake." "Birthday cake?" I asked. "Yeah!" He said in a long drawn out expression. "...chocolate candle cake!" Well, let's make it a whole birthday party then. He's one month ahead of the game but we had a lot of fun preparing for the real thing. We spread raspberries as the in-between and on-top layers and topped the cake with chocolate sprinkles that Brett bought for me one day a long time ago at the Dutch Shop. As it turns out, Eily was more excited about the ice cream that went with it. Lesson learned. Good thing we had a trial run.

Eily's quite fond of the banner I finished, although he prefers to use it as a train. We'll hopefully hang it up for the party this weekend and use it for decorating future birthday parties.
