september cleaning

the cold makes me want to clean. somehow. and it's a good thing too because not much has really been cleaned well since we moved. the stove was a sight after canning 60 plus jars of peaches (a ridiculous amount...thankfully, shared amongst four households). so it began with that.

the most satisfying cleaning project was removing 5 years worth of lime on the bottom of the kettle. i celebrated with making bread from artisan bread in five minutes a day (no kidding...they're not joking; see here for more inspiration or admire this fine loaf and witness my son devouring a slice).

idling

i've been working my way up to another entry for weeks now. sometimes it's easier to pretend my computer doesn't exist and just keep sewing. but the truth is this blog's/experiment's anniversary is approaching and i have to do a better job committing to it. a deadline, in a life that is 9-5less, isn't such a bad thing. enough idling.

Yesterday was the first time I made bread and it turned out the way I was hoping (the previous three times it was more like a brickette or semi-brickette). I am completely inspired to try this recipe again - it was an original Harrowsmith one - with seeds and other additions. These loaves are spelt, unbleached and whole wheat.
