cardinal hoodie

it's pure satisfaction to finish this project after hoping to make it a christmas gift then vowing to finish it by the end of march, then sewing the seams twice (because the first time just didn't cut it) and one spot even three times.

this is Eily before 9am in the morning. and behind him is the reason i've been preoccupied with other things (ie. drywalling, mudding, cleaning, painting).

A Slow Start

January is a satisfying expanse of time that too quickly fills up.
I spent the holidays picking up a few old projects and starting some new ones.
A dragon towel for Eily and one for his cousin:
Learning intarsia for the cardinal motif on E's hoodie:

A second roller blind, this one went much more smoothly:

And, at the quilt shop, E requested a needle felted elephant like he saw in a book. It's a tiny little thing named (oddly enough, considering his natural habitat), Snowy:

i thought my sewing machine and i were on a hiatus, but...

a mini cowl scarf for Eily...(maybe this will put an end to sniffles every two weeks).

...and a finished order for a wool-loving three-year-old.

New designs

Just in time for tomorrow's sale: cowl scarf, mixed merino top, and slippers. It's not even that late, but my head is foggy, the tripod's crooked, and the colours are all off. Time for a sewing break.

fall

it can change a season overnight.

i have so little time but i've been itching to try out some new wool pieces: merino leggings, circular scarves (modeled below), a new dress fusing recycled wool and vintage fabric, a sideways cardigan...suddenly, it feels like the sales are just around the corner, but who am i kidding: nothing makes sense at midnight.
so i will eat lemon yogurt and go to bed.

holiday

a week at the cottage with an everyday-dip-in-the-lake (or long languishing swim). it felt like luxury. or necessary when i think back on it now that i'm in this hot city again.
there was also time to draw up some ideas for the swap poster (more on that later); post upcoming events on the website; start a new knitting project (a raglan pullover with the softest of soft yarns); work on some mending; and once we were home again, try out the new photo studio (with camera installed on tripod and backdrop ready!)

but the best part will have to wait. i finished knitting my cardigan (hence the new project) and once i've sewn in the seams and blocked it, i'll be eager to show it off. even in the heat of august.

and a shot of the little torpedo in his happy fish sweater.

Finally, I've gotten to some woollen goods for upcoming fall sales. But I can't resist keeping the fish sweater for Eily.

I managed to finish modifying the sweater (the one I started this winter; see May 28th post for before picture) this weekend, though I still hesitate to say finished. I'll try it out for awhile first. I scrapped the i-cords when it turned out the wrap idea wasn't working. Now, it's just an extended capelet whose sleeves stay put a lot better than before.

A girl's blazer from an upcycled sweatshirt...I should have taken before shots. It was pretty ugly. I had seen this modification done on craftster and had to try it. I love restructing articles because I can keep the general body of the piece and still change 80 percent of it. I also added a felted ladybug button. Plus, I learned the magic of pressing, a super sewing tip from Rebecca.
